MHS Choral Program Overview

The Magnolia School District Choral Program is a comprehensive vocal music program, designed to develop musical literacy, strengthen sight-reading skills and expose students to developmentally appropriate choral literature.   The district’s choral program holds full membership in the Arkansas Choral Director’s Association.

Magnolia High School Choral Program is an active, dynamic group of vocalists, who also serve as student leaders, athletes and scholars across campus. Students are given the opportunity to audition for the Region III All-Region Honor Choirs and Arkansas All-State Choirs where Magnolia singers have consistently earned placement.

Students who gain membership in the program are automatically enrolled in Concert Choir (Vocal Music I/II/III/IV).  From Concert Choir, students are given the opportunity to audition for the following ensembles:

  • Bel Canto & Concert Men (select, advanced female/male ensembles that concentrate on the preparation of discriminate choral literature, specifically targeting female/male voices)

The concert season consists of two major concerts (fall/spring), and a variety of extra performance opportunities.  In addition, choirs prepare music for ArkCDA Regional Choral Performance Assessment & Sight-reading competition as well as State Festival.  With consistency, Magnolia choirs have earned Superior-Division I ratings at both contests.  Most notably, Bel Canto, Concert Men & Concert Choir have combined for several “Best in Class” captions at the ArkCDA State Choral Festival & “Outstanding Choral Group,” “Sweepstakes Awards,” “Adjudicator’s Award” and “Spirit of D.C.” awards at the 2017 & 2018 WorldStrides Heritage Festivals—Dallas (TX)/Washington (D.C.)
